New AWA Board Members

New%20Board%202023.png

AWA is happy to announce that three new nominees were voted on to the Board of Directors and will begin serving their first term officially in November. Many thanks to all of the talented candidates who expressed interest in supporting AWA through this service. The Nominating Committee had a challenging process of material review and interviews to finalize nominations for the Board vote! The new Board members are:

May Klisch
May is an Associate with Distinction member of AWA who currently lives in Wisconsin. She enjoyed a career in business before her current full-time focus on art. Originally from Singapore, she has traveled extensively and lived in other locations including Hawaii and San Francisco. May has served as Exhibit Chair for the League of Milwaukee Artists and on the Executive Committee of the Shorewood Artists Guild. Her background and degree in business, experience as a professional artist and with AWA, and service as a nonprofit board member will support the needs of the AWA Board well.

Sally Maxwell

Sally is a Master Signature member of AWA. A native of Illinois who now lives in Texas, she has been working with scratchboard for over 50 years and is one of only 12 Master Scratchboard artists in the world. Sally has focused on diverse aspects of the business of being an artist beyond selling her original work through production of scratchboard kits with Ampersand Art Materials and owning a gallery. She has also worked with other nonprofits and previously served on the AWA Master Signature selection committee. AWA will benefit from Sally's professional experience and passion for AWA.

Angela Mia

Angela is a Master Signature member of AWA living in Texas. An award-winning sculptor, Angela is an elected Fellow of the National Sculpture Society and was named a Living Master by the Art Renewal Center (ARC). Angela has focused on art as business with marketing and selling her sculpture and a custom jewelry line. A graduate of Clarion University, Angela cofounded the nonprofit FLITE that helps artists help those in need. Angela has served AWA through committee work, award sponsorship, and attendance at exhibitions for years. AWA will benefit from having even more of Angela's time and focus on our mission.
